There’s something quite romantic about cleansing balms. Maybe it’s the promise of a slice of indulging in the evening—self-care is crucial after a long day at the office and you simply need to take the day off. Locking myself up in the bathroom with a jar of Darphin cleansing balm has never failed to put me in a state of repose. Hiding in plain sight is a ton of sunscreen and daily pollution that I need to remove before I can start giving my skin back what the day took out. The balm comes in a heavy glass jar with a somewhat sticky balm and the scent of roses—this is the stage where you rub your hands together to warm them up before you take some balm out. You don’t want to spend time warming up the product between your hands for too long and wash your hands. With warm hands and a thin layer of product coating them, apply to dry skin and put in the elbow grease, great skin comes at the price of consistency. The honey textured balm contains Marula Oil, Sage, Ylang Ylang and Rosewood Essential Oils, a truly indulgent experience.
Once you’re finished with your massage, wet your hands and emulsify the product or go in with a warm cloth to remove it. Following up with a second step is arbitrary—I do still recommend a double cleanse in the evening and my current Bioderma gel one is a favorite, but you can use whatever suits your needs. Once all of the cleansers are off, you’ll be left with buttery smooth skin and over time a clearer complexion as you’re properly deep cleansing it daily.
