After years of trying this out, I can now soundly conclude that the best time to start your skincare routine is as soon as you get home from work, gym or school, or wherever you are during the day. Ensuring that my schedule allows me to cocoon and no longer have to interact or look presentable, I unwind and get to work before my brain turns off. A nice double cleanse routine to get all of the sunscreen off and start with a clean canvas—it might not be makeup but trust me, removing waterproof sunscreen calls for the same strategy. Depending on the need, it’s a mixture of a HA serum and some thermal water spray followed by an active. Call it routine or habit but finishing off I pretty much always concoct an oil and night cream blend.
On current rotation is a rosehip and camellia blend from Grown Alchemist—smells divine and goes on so smooth, but I wonder why it’s only 20ml. By now the entire beauty world knows the regenerating effects of rosehip oil, combining it with camellia thins the texture down and ups the soothing effect noticeably. Camellia oil is brilliant for the skin as it contains essential fatty acids and sinks in quite fast, being similar in texture to our own sebum, giving this oil a dry touch effect. Let me tell you, the results have been great as with countless other oils I’ve tried. Oils are part of the free for all situation, find one that suits your needs and aim for a price point where you won’t be scared to actually use it regularly.
